Lufthansa planning for return to the Queen City

June 1, 2021

After a year of shutdowns and travel restrictions, things are getting back to a normal on both sides of the pond. This causes Lufthansa to return to Charlotte with their iconic CLT – MUC flight.

While frequencies are still low, this is a first sign of recovering international travel needs. For the beginning, Lufthansa plans to fly with three weekly flights, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The first flight out of Charlotte will be on Saturday, July 3rd on Lufthansa current flag ship plane, the Airbus A350-900. This is in deviation from last years: Lufthansa intended to bring the A340-600 to Charlotte. However, Lufthansa has retired this aircraft type since. Important for all spotters: The first arrival is currently planned for Friday, July 2nd and the plane will most likely stay in Charlotte overnight.

While this start date is still a month away, and lots can happen during that time, I feel confident that this time the flight is going to stick around and won’t be postponed. Demand for freight and pax is high, and aside of MUC-CLT, Lufthansa also plans to revive other US routes in July, like MUC-JFK and MUC-BOS.
